Where are you?
Kirzhach is below you, but the clouds have covered almost everything. Find yourself on the map from a patch of ground.
5 jumps from 500 to 4000 metres
How to play
- 1Look down. Through the clouds you'll see a patch of ground: a field, a village, the edge of a forest, the runway.
- 2Point the arrow at the dropzone, then mark the spot straight below you (the centre of the view) on the map.
- 3The closer the pin, the more points. Misses are judged against altitude: 300 metres off from 4000 metres is excellent, from 500 it isn't. The arrow earns up to 1000 bonus points.
Why skydivers play it
On a cloudy day the ground shows up in pieces. If you know the area around the dropzone, one gap is enough to tell where the landing area is and where to fly under canopy. The game trains exactly that: recognising the ground from a fragment.
Kirzhach dropzone
An airfield by the town of Kirzhach in Vladimir Oblast, with a 1,740-metre grass runway, 01/19. It opened in 1941, and parachutists have trained here since 1960, starting with the first cosmonaut group.
